I think the only specialist racket shops around in a few years time will be small outlets in squash and tennis clubs.
Gary has the best of both worlds. As well as a very successful website www.just-rackets.co.uk , he runs his racket shop at Letcworth Tennis & Squash Club , Although most business comes via the website, Gary feels it is crucial to have a physical presence too. It is important to show you're not a faceless internet business. People of course want to use the internet because they know that gives them lower prices, but I think they're more comfortable buying online if they know you have a real retail outlet as well. Especially if they can call you first.
